Same day taken 15 seconds or so apart.
Social media is a beautiful thing, it has the power to bring people together from all corners of the globe and provides a magical looking glass through which almost everything is visible. Yet there is a fundamental flaw in its design that I think you are probably well aware of... You only see what the other person wants you too see.
Now of course this makes sense! Im all for privacy, I certainly don't want the world seeing every move I make, every shit hair day I have (jks) etc, etc... However these 'perfect' lives and 'perfect' bodies that we are advertising to others have fast become a catalyst for depression, anxiety, dissatisfaction and self harm. By nature we are competitive beings, always striving to have more, be better and look better than those next to us and whilst this drive can be helpful in motivating us to achieve our goals in life, it happens to come hand in hand with the terrible habit of comparing ourselves to everyone that we happen to meet along the way. Ideally, it would be great if we could utilise this comparison to identify perceived voids in our lives and inspire us to make the necessary changes in order to fill them. However what tends to happen is that we are left feeling worthless and dissatisfied with what we have and so we tear apart our self esteem and label ourselves as unsuccessful. Ouch.
My message here is simple, I know what it means to feel despair, complete, dark despair, that starts in your mind and works its way down to the pit of your stomach, eating away at you hour after hour, day after day, week after week... BUT, and its a big one , we MUST remember that what we see is not the whole picture! It is a half truth, the light side of the Yin Yang and it is NOT the whole story.
We MUST stop comparing ourselves to others and start becoming inspired by them instead. Let their achievements motivate you to fill the voids that you THINK you have, but do not let them rule you. You are more than that, you are human and you are more than just the physical, you are an experience! You came from nature and you will one day return to her, when you feel down, visit her and she will ❤️ you.
