The "beauty" of the "taper" is a fallacy. Today's 12 miles was almost harder than last weekends 20. What the heck? This heat and humidity is seriously messing with my training. But I figure if I run all these longer runs with 90 degrees and 90% humidity, then race day will be 55 degrees and glorious, right? And it'll feel amazing and I'll run like the wind.
In other news, I'm thankful that I have healthy strong legs to carry me throughout my busy days and long runs. I'm also grateful to Waubonsie Community College for having their Student Center open so I could use their bathrooms.

Dear, sweet pool bag. The time has come yet again. Time to put you away for the winter. You will be missed, but never forgotten.
Some of my students are into origami. They gave me these treasures today.
Man do I looooove Labor Day weekend. As a teacher, it's the perfect time for a little extra break after two weeks of nuttiness. But long weekends are no excuse to skip your workouts. In fact, it's even MORE important to get your workouts in on these party weekends. Gotta offset the celebratory eats/drinks.
Ain't nobody got time (or clean dishes) for proper serving of the superfood shake. #getinmahbelly
All kidding aside, this shake has transformed my life. I know there's a lot of shakes, drinks, and supplements on the market right now and I'm sure some of them are great! I just know that this shake is my jam. It has given me more energy, more stamina in my workouts, and keeps me healthy during the yuckiest of cold and flu seasons. Not to mention my blood work has been better than it's ever been at the ripe age of 40.
I have made adjustments in our family budget to be able to afford this shake, but it's completely worth it. I will never go back to feeling the way I did before. My health is worth way more than the money I pay each month.
I'm in need of some suggestions. Started putting down some mileage in preparation for Big Bear #spartanbeastin October. 16 miles on the treadmill during this week, 10+ miles trail running over the weekend. Rinse and repeat weekly, bumping the miles every week. However, the treadmill is boring. And there are only so many times I can watch the #timberlakespecial on #netflixso I need some suggestions. What do you watch or listen to on the treadmill?

Kids are getting all the attention this week with the Back To School Buzz.
But next week, I'm focusing on ME. I'm focusing on dialing in my nutrition (because let's be real, summer time=), drinking my superfood shake every day, and committing to a workout program from start to finish again.

People often say to me, "I wish I had the motivation to cook healthy/workout/run/get up early, etc." And I always say that the motivation comes AFTER you start doing it! You have to get the ball moving first. Don't wait for the motivation, make your own momentum! Start today!

Views from this morning's run. The Starbucks was my reward. There's no time to drink coffee before an early morning run and there is nothing better than delicious coffee afterwards!
15 women. I want to help 15 women learn to love themselves again. I want to help 15 women learn how to fuel and move their bodies like they love their bodies. I want to help 15 women learn to laugh again.
These 15 women will begin a brand new challenge on August 21. We will work together for 3 weeks completing a workout program of your choice. We will drink a superfood shake every day instead of a meal, or as a snack, treat, dessert, whatever! We will learn how to treat our bodies right while UNlearning some destructive self-behavior. We will lift each other up, when we ourselves are feeling down. But most importantly, we will have fun.

I find myself saying "I love running," but I feel like a liar. I really don't love running. It sucks. But I love how I feel when I'm DONE with a run. And I love how my body feels when I'm consistently running. My point is, you don't have to LOVE working out. But find something you don't despise, and focus on the feeling you get when you're done.

I made these "Monster Muffins" for the kids. I love that they're yummy and full of nutrients. They have spinach, banana, coconut oil, and flax seed in them so....I (I mean THEY!) can eat them all.
